About the Class
Ready to take your first step into dressmaking? Or need help pushing yourself out of your comfort zone and trying something a bit harder? Our Make Your Own Clothes Class class is designed especially for beginners who are keen to make their very first handmade piece of clothing and intermediate sewers who need that push and a bit of help with the trickier aspects of their garments. Whether you’ve just finished our Beginner Dressmaking Course, you’re completely new to sewing garments, or you need that push this is the perfect place to start. In this class, we’ll guide you through the whole process of making your first simple garment, from choosing a pattern to understanding the instructions and constructing your piece step by step. You’ll build confidence with your sewing machine, learn how to follow a pattern, and pick up lots of useful tips and techniques along the way. Over the course of the block, we’ll help you: Choose and understand a sewing pattern Learn the key symbols, markings and terminology used in dressmaking Cut out your fabric with accuracy and confidence Construct your garment with guidance and support Pick up essential sewing techniques that will set you up for future projects By the end of the course, you’ll have created a you-made garment – and gained the skills and confidence to keep sewing more! What you’ll need: Basic sewing kit (pins, scissors, unpicker, tailors chalk, thread etc.) Your chosen project (pattern and fabric) – or grab one of our beginner sewing kits from our online shop Use of our fully equipped studio with modern Janome sewing machines and overlockers Skill Level: 1. Stitch Starter (perfect for beginners who want to sew their first garment) - this is a mixed ability class perfect for beginners and intermediate sewers, all will receive a similar level of learning met at their own level and pace. If you have just finished our beginners course and think it's too soon to join this class, it’s not! Now is the most perfect time to continue your learning, doing so in a guided way. We will be on hand to help you create your dream wardrobe. You may or may not get your garment finished during the classes but you will have the skills and understanding to finish at home which you will have learnt from making your toile. Some students like to do a little bit of sewing in between classes but this isn’t a necessity.

Cancellation Policy – Classes & Workshops By booking a class or workshop with Ready Steady Sew, you agree to the terms outlined below. Please read carefully before booking. Booking & Payment All classes and workshops must be paid for in full at the time of booking to secure your place. Cancellations & Refunds Please check dates carefully before booking. As our classes run on specific dates and spaces are limited, all bookings are non-refundable We are unable to offer refunds if you are no longer able to attend, regardless of the reason. This includes illness, work commitments, or changes in personal circumstances. If You Are Unable to Attend If for any reason you are unable to attend, please contact us as soon as possible. We will always try to find someone to take your place as a goodwill gesture, however this is not guaranteed and we are not contractually obliged to do so If we are able to fill your space, we may offer you the option to move to a future class If we are unable to fill your space, your booking will remain non-refundable and non-transferable You are also welcome to send someone in your place. Please let us know their name and contact details in advance Non-Attendance Failure to attend your class will result in the loss of your booking No refunds or alternatives will be offered Partially Attended Courses We do not offer refunds or alternatives for partially attended courses or workshops, please ensure you can come to all dates If We Need to Cancel In the unlikely event that we need to cancel or reschedule a class: We will aim to give at least one week’s notice where possible, however in some circumstances this may be less You will be offered a full refund, or The option to move to an alternative date Please note that we are not liable for any additional costs or losses incurred, including but not limited to travel, accommodation, or purchased materials and fabrics. As a small business, we rely on full classes to remain sustainable, and offering transfers or refunds to everyone who requests them would result in under-booked classes. We encourage you to ensure you're available for the dates of the course you book. Once a spot is reserved, it is committed to you, and we cannot accommodate changes to future sessions regardless of the reason.
