Freelance Sewing & Textile Tutors
Build classes with us at Ready Steady Sew
Ready Steady Sew is a busy, growing sewing school and studio, and we are looking to expand our bank of reliable, enthusiastic freelance tutors to teach a wide range of workshops and courses.
We are keen to hear from tutors who specialise in one or more areas rather than everything. You do not need to cover all topics. Our aim is to build a trusted group of tutors we can rely on as our programme continues to grow.
Skills we would love to hear from
We are currently looking for tutors who can teach any of the following:
-
Dressmaking at beginner, intermediate and or advanced level
-
Learn to sew and beginner sewing classes
-
Fitting and adjusting dressmaking patterns
-
Embroidery and surface stitch techniques
-
Curtain and blind making
-
Quilting
-
Children’s sewing classes
If your skillset sits slightly outside this list but feels relevant to a sewing studio, we are still happy to hear from you.
The traits that really matter to us
This is a freelance role, but reliability is essential. We need tutors we can trust to show up prepared, confident and ready to lead a class.
You must be:
-
Reliable and professional with your time and commitments
-
Enthusiastic about sharing your skills and supporting students
-
Confident leading a class of 8+ adult students
-
Friendly, approachable and able to explain techniques clearly
Previous teaching experience is helpful but not essential. Strong technical skills, confidence and a genuine love of helping others learn are far more important.
How our classes run
-
Classes typically run as 4 or 6 week blocks, or as half-day, one-day or two-day workshops
-
Teaching may be daytime, evening or weekend depending on the class
-
You do not need to be available for all time slots
Our studio is based at Broad Oak Farm Business Park near Whitchurch, so you must be able to travel to us. Access to a car is essential.
What We Offer:
-
Freelance pay from £20–£30 per hour, depending on experience, skillset and the type of class being taught
-
A supportive, friendly working environment
-
The opportunity to teach both established and newly developed classes
-
Flexible teaching opportunities across daytime, evening and weekend sessions
-
The chance to be part of a growing creative business with a strong community feel
About Us:
Ready Steady Sew is a vibrant sewing school focused on helping people build skills, confidence and community through sewing. Our studio is a welcoming, well-equipped space, and our students are enthusiastic, committed and keen to learn.

Freelance Social Media & Content Creator
Local, flexible role with Ready Steady Sew
Ready Steady Sew is a busy, growing sewing school and studio, and we are looking for a local, freelance Social Media & Content Creator to help grow our online presence and community.
This is a flexible freelance role, not a studio-based position. However, you must be local enough to regularly visit the studio to capture content from classes, workshops and day-to-day studio life.
We are looking for someone who understands that successful social media is about planning, storytelling and engagement, not just posting content. We are far more interested in building an engaged community than chasing follower numbers.
What you’ll be doing
Content creation (in person when needed)
-
Visiting the studio to capture photos and short-form video during classes and workshops
-
Filming Reels and Stories that reflect real studio life, learning and creativity
-
Capturing behind-the-scenes moments, preparation, progress and student wins
-
Editing short-form video and images for Instagram and Facebook
Content planning & organisation
-
Looking ahead at our class, workshop and course schedule
-
Forward planning content to support upcoming launches and bookings
-
Creating and managing your own content plan around what’s happening in the studio
-
Spotting content opportunities in advance, not just reacting on the day
Community & engagement
-
Writing captions that are warm, clear and aligned with our brand voice
-
Encouraging conversation and interaction, not just posting and disappearing
-
Understanding what our audience cares about and responding accordingly
Online presence & growth
-
Maintaining a consistent look, feel and tone across platforms
-
Helping us grow our presence across new and emerging platforms, where appropriate
-
Identifying opportunities to extend our reach while keeping community at the heart of what we do
This role is ideal for someone who:
-
Is local and able to visit the studio regularly to film content
-
Has an interest in sewing, textiles or making, or relevant experience in a sewing-related business
-
Is organised and confident forward planning content
-
Has a proven track record of growing an engaged online community, not just followers
-
Is confident approaching tutors and students to capture content
-
Is reliable, proactive and comfortable working independently
You should be comfortable taking initiative, planning your workload and suggesting ideas rather than waiting for direction.
What we’re looking for (experience & skills)
-
Experience managing and growing social media accounts for a business or brand
-
Strong short-form video skills, particularly Instagram Reels
-
An understanding of what drives engagement, reach and connection
-
Confidence filming and photographing in a busy, real-life environment
Experience in creative, education or community-led businesses is a bonus.
Hours & pay
-
Freelance role
-
Approximately 2–6 hours per week to start
-
£23–£28 per hour, depending on experience and skillset
-
Potential to increase hours as the role develops
