About the Class
Do you have a sewing machine but feel unsure about how to use it to its full potential? Or maybe you’ve just inherited a machine and want to get started but don’t know where to begin? Our Sewing Machine Basics Workshop is designed to help you unlock the full power of your sewing machine and give you the skills you need to create beautiful projects with confidence! Whether you’re a complete beginner or someone looking to refresh your skills, this hands-on workshop will guide you through everything you need to know to sew like a pro. By the end of this workshop, you’ll have a solid understanding of your machine and be ready to tackle your first sewing projects with ease. In our Sewing Machine Basics Workshop, we cover all the essential skills you need to master your machine and start creating. Getting to Know Your Sewing Machine: ●Learn the basic parts and functions of your sewing machine, including the needle, feed dogs, different feet, and more. ●Understand how to thread your machine and bobbin correctly, and troubleshoot common issues. Understanding Stitch Settings: ●Discover the different types of stitches your machine can make, including straight stitches, zigzag stitches, and specialty stitches. ●Learn how to adjust stitch length and width to suit your fabric and project. Basic Sewing Techniques: ●Master essential techniques like sewing straight lines, turning corners, and pivoting. ●Learn how to sew seams, hems, and finish raw edges for a professional-looking result. Troubleshooting Common Problems: ●Gain confidence in diagnosing and fixing issues like thread tension problems, skipped stitches, or fabric bunching. You'll also make a simple tote bag to showcase your new skills. What you'll need: ●Sewing machine - or borrow one of ours for the day ●Sewing kit (thread, pins, un-picker, fabric scissors) ●Fabric to make your tote bag - you'll need 1/2m (based on 150cm width). ●Medium to heavier weight cottons work well for a tote bag. ●2-3m of bag strapping or webbing What will be provided: ●3 hours of sewing tuition ●An iron and ironing board ●Fabric to practice on whilst you get to grips with your machine Skill Level: Pin Pusher (Absolute Beginner)

Cancellation Policy – Classes & Workshops By booking a class or workshop with Ready Steady Sew, you agree to the terms outlined below. Please read carefully before booking. Booking & Payment All classes and workshops must be paid for in full at the time of booking to secure your place. Cancellations & Refunds Please check dates carefully before booking. As our classes run on specific dates and spaces are limited, all bookings are non-refundable We are unable to offer refunds if you are no longer able to attend, regardless of the reason. This includes illness, work commitments, or changes in personal circumstances. If You Are Unable to Attend If for any reason you are unable to attend, please contact us as soon as possible. We will always try to find someone to take your place as a goodwill gesture, however this is not guaranteed and we are not contractually obliged to do so If we are able to fill your space, we may offer you the option to move to a future class If we are unable to fill your space, your booking will remain non-refundable and non-transferable You are also welcome to send someone in your place. Please let us know their name and contact details in advance Non-Attendance Failure to attend your class will result in the loss of your booking No refunds or alternatives will be offered Partially Attended Courses We do not offer refunds or alternatives for partially attended courses or workshops, please ensure you can come to all dates If We Need to Cancel In the unlikely event that we need to cancel or reschedule a class: We will aim to give at least one week’s notice where possible, however in some circumstances this may be less You will be offered a full refund, or The option to move to an alternative date Please note that we are not liable for any additional costs or losses incurred, including but not limited to travel, accommodation, or purchased materials and fabrics. As a small business, we rely on full classes to remain sustainable, and offering transfers or refunds to everyone who requests them would result in under-booked classes. We encourage you to ensure you're available for the dates of the course you book. Once a spot is reserved, it is committed to you, and we cannot accommodate changes to future sessions regardless of the reason.
