About the Class
Do you struggle with choosing the right size from a pattern chart? Are your measurements between sizes, leaving you unsure of which to pick? Or have you spent hours sewing a beautiful garment only to find it doesn’t fit properly and ends up gathering dust in your wardrobe? You're not alone! Commercial patterns are based on a standard size set that doesn’t fit most people. The key to making patterns work for your body is understanding how to adjust them for the best fit and that’s exactly what this course will teach you. For example, many patterns are designed for a B cup bust, so if you have a fuller bust, you’ll need to make a full bust adjustment for the right fit. Let’s be honest most patterns don’t account for tummies, but women’s bodies come in all shapes and sizes, tummies included! In this course, you’ll work on fitting an industry-standard block to your body. The skills you learn are transferable to any commercial dressmaking pattern, so by the end of the class, you’ll know how to adjust patterns to fit your unique shape and you’ll leave with a block that fits perfectly! What You Will Learn: ●How to take accurate measurements ●Selecting the right size pattern based on your bust measurements ●Full/small bust adjustments ●Lengthening/shortening bodices ●Waist/tummy adjustments ●Moving and adjusting darts ●Adjusting the neckline ●Narrowing or broadening shoulder seams ●Back fitting adjustments Course Structure: This class is tailored to meet individual student needs, so the exact adjustments will vary. While the list above covers common adjustments, not everyone will need all of them. You'll learn how to make adjustments to achieve a perfectly fitting bodice and gain insights into other adjustments by seeing what your fellow students are working on. What You Will Need: ●Sewing machine ●Sewing kit (pins, thread, unpicker, tape measure, etc.) ●Glue stick or sellotape ●Calico for toiles (expect to make several) What You Will Receive: ●A block pattern to make adjustments on (basic, non-stylised) ●Pattern paper ●An instruction booklet for different adjustments Skill Level: 4. Seamstress in training (Intermediate)
