About the Class
Do you struggle with choosing the right size from a pattern chart? Are your measurements between sizes, leaving you unsure of which to pick? Or have you spent hours sewing a beautiful garment only to find it doesn’t fit properly and ends up gathering dust in your wardrobe? You're not alone! Commercial patterns are based on standard size sets that don’t fit everyone. The key to making patterns work for your body is understanding how to adjust them for the best fit, and that’s exactly what this workshop will teach you. You can choose to focus on either top fitting or trouser fitting, depending on which you'd like to improve. In this workshop, you’ll work on fitting an industry-standard block pattern to your body. The skills you learn are transferable to commercial dressmaking patterns, helping you understand how to adjust patterns to suit your unique shape. You’ll leave with a fitted block (pattern) and the knowledge to achieve a better fit in your future sewing projects. What You Will Learn Top Fitting Taking accurate body measurements Selecting the right pattern size Full and small bust adjustments Lengthening or shortening the bodice Waist and tummy adjustments Moving and adjusting darts Narrowing or broadening shoulder seams Back fitting adjustments Trouser Fitting Taking accurate body measurements Selecting the right pattern size Adjusting the waist and hips Addressing tummy and seat fitting issues Adjusting the rise and crotch curve Lengthening or shortening the legs Understanding common trouser fitting issues and how to correct them Course Structure This workshop is tailored to individual needs, so the adjustments you make will depend on your body shape and the fit you're looking to achieve. You won't necessarily need every adjustment listed above, but you'll learn how to identify fitting issues and make the changes needed to improve the fit. You'll also learn from seeing the adjustments other students are making, giving you a broader understanding of fitting techniques you can apply to your own sewing projects. Please bring your sewing kit, any pattern-cutting rulers you have, at least 2 metres of calico, a pencil and Sellotape. Calico can be added to your booking at checkout. When booking, please add a note at checkout to let me know whether you'd like to focus on top fitting or trouser fitting.
